Celebrating Women in NYC and Around the World

Thank you for everyone who took part in last week's International Women's Day. 135 individuals came to celebrate four outstanding women. Christina Schiavoni from WhyHunger presented awards and moderated a panel with:
  • Ceci Charles-King, Voices of African Mothers at the UN
  • Ellen Gustafson, The 30 Project
  • Nancy Ortiz-Surun, La Finca del Sur
  • Nancy Romer, Brooklyn Food Coalition
Participants wrote notes to their senators, discussed issues of food justice, and reflected on honoring women on International Women's Day.

In total, 45 letters were written to Senator Schumer, 23 to Senator Gillibrand, and 15 to senators outside of New York.

The event was even covered by NY12 News in Brooklyn.

If you are interested in writing your own letter to your senator, you can use a letter writing guide that we prepared specifically for International Women's Day. You can find the guide at http://bit.ly/wk4n4b.

If you have any questions, please email us at newyorkcity@oxfamactioncorps.org.

Thanks again for your support and we hope to see you at other events throughout the year.
