A Great Way to Celebrate Earth Day!!

Thanks to all of you who came out to Central Park to help us collect 416 signatures to get the next president to:

1. Commit the US to reducing its global warming pollution to a level consistent with limiting warming to 2° Celsius over preindustrial levels.
2. Dedicate new and sufficient funding to help developing countries adapt to climate change impacts such as flooding, droughts, crop failures, and disease.
3. Shift subsidies for fossil fuels like oil and coal to support clean energy solutions.
4. Engage constructively in international negotiations and commit the US to mandatory targets to reduce global warming pollution.

It was a great day! We'll be writing letters to our congressional representatives in Union Square on Saturday, May 3rd! Come join us at 14th and Broadway to collect more petition signatures or to write a letter to your representative. Email us at oxfamactioncorps.nyc@gmail.com for more information! Happy Earth Day!!

Walk for Climate Justice Event - April 20, 2008, 12pm-4pm

Join with Oxfam Action Corps NYC to collect signatures on a petition to get the next president to act immediately to address the devastating impacts of climate change on those hit first and worst and to help those communities adapt to future weather events. Participate in a nationally coordinated stunt to attract media attention to the effects of water shortages on vulnerable communities in recognition of Earth Day. Plus, enjoy all the free music and events of the Green Apple Festival while you're helping to raise awareness about the effects of climate change on those least responsible!

Look for the Oxfam banners and signs inside Central Park near the East 72nd and 5th entrance, southwest corner. Bring a bucket and wear a white t-shirt to participate in the stunt and tell us if you know of a child who would like to participate to bring attention to the future implications of climate change. For full instructions, download the Walk for Climate Justice toolkit above!

See you there!

Welcome to Oxfam Action Corps NYC

Oxfam Action Corps NYC is a part of the Oxfam America Action Corps, a group of volunteers across the country fighting the increasing burden that climate-related disasters present to those least capable of dealing with the impacts. People in developing countries are more than 20 times as likely to be affected by such disasters as compared with those in the developed world. Oxfam Action Corps NYC is looking for members who are willing to dedicate their time to campaigning our legislators on this critical issue. For more information or to hear about our plans for the future, email us at oxfamactioncorps.nyc@gmail.com.
